Hammy dashes Souths Hopes

Just when all seemed so good leading 8-4 and dominating the game a key injury once again caused the biggest impact to our year. After a year where everyone was concerned that Reynolds may breakdown early in the season it was so cruel to see it happen 53 min from Souths first GF in 41 years.

Reynolds Breaks 200 points in the season

Congratulations to Adam Reynolds who became only the 2nd every person behind Eric Simms to score more than 200 points in a season.

Farewell Geddes

Scott Geddes was farewelled on GF day as our last player to have been with the club since re-instatement every year.

Final Stat Attack

With Reynolds gone Souths struggled in their right side defensive line with Canterbury adjusting their attack to target and isolate Issac who was not used to defending in the backline. Missed tackles were up to unacceptable levels as were errors. Effective 1st tackles improved in the first half as we dominated the game, but fell away in the second half. The two quick tries just before half time hurt us.

Looking at our left side defence - Merritt-McQueen-Sutton-S.Burgess (2-5-1-1) was poor at 9 from 4 missed tackles last week with McQueen rushing out of the line too often. On the right side Everingham-Farrell-Reynolds/Issac-Taylor (1-2-4-3) was still poor at 10 from 11 last week. Key issue was Issac's poor backline defence.

On the positive side our go forward was steady. Our go forward was great this week with Sam & Luke Burgess, Luke and Pettybourne cracking the 100+m. Defensively Sam Burgess was our best in the tackling raking up 36 tackles. With Asotasi and Tyrrell not missing a tackle.
