We Let that one slip away

In a game where we led at half time, we did not respect possession and allowed Manly back in the game and it cost us in the end with a narrow loss. Manly took it us in the forwards when Jason King came on after missing most of last season and it rattle the Burgess boys.

Turners non-debut

Kyle Turner was left sitting on sidelines as Maguire only used 3 bench players in our tight contest with Manly. Hopefully he will get his chance next week.

Ankle Injuries ?

We are having a uncharactistic run of ankle injuries this year with both Walker and McQueen being ruled out this week after carrying these injuries into the Manly game. Tom Burgess is also out for extended period with a ankle injury.

Reynolds 27 goals Record

Well it was at Gosford in 2013 when Adam reynolds last misses a goal attempt and in a relaively easy kick Adam missed his first attempt again also at Gosford. Thus setting a Rabbitohs record of 27 consective goals. Pity that miss also cost us the game in a close two point loss.

New 40-20 Rule is a issue

Anyone who has seen the new 40-20 rule in action can see clearly that there is a basic issue with the new "tap" rule. As a kicker kicks the ball the attacking team naturally runs though the defensive line. But when a 40-20 occurs the defending team needs to turn around and catch up with the attacking team and tehn run a further 10m to get onside for the "tap" kick 20m in from the sideline. We have already seen sides stroll through for tries with smart wingers and kickers exploiting the rule and players being sin binned for professional fouls. Positional play and speed of wingers is starting to become extremely import in a football team under this new rule.

Round 2 - Stat Attack

Stats dropped last week with errors and teh lack of a quality go forward being a key contributer to our loss. Completion rates poor at 68% and and our error count was alos poor at 14. Souths Effective 1st tackle for the match was bad at 44.1m. We made 25 missed tackles which was average and allowed 12 opposition offloads. Which is too many.

Looking at our left side defence - Tuqiri-Goodwin-Walker-SBurgess (0-1-5-2) 8 missed tackles was up this week with Walkers ankle injury being a contributer. On the right side Merritt-Champion-Reynolds-Teo (1-2-1-1) while up was still good at 5 missed tackles this week.

Our go forward was poor at 1159m. George Burgess lead the way in the forwards was the best making 8.2m per hitup. With George Burgess and Sam Burgess only two players making more that 100+m in the match. Defensively Sam Burgess was our best in the tackling raking up 36 tackles. With Inglis, Tuqiri, George Burgess, Lowe and Tyrrell not missing a tackle.
