The South Sydney Rabbitohs will celebrate the Club’s 21st premiership with an open top bus parade through the South Sydney district and the City of Sydney on Thursday 9 October, starting at 12:30pm, culminating in a public civic reception to be held at Sydney Town Hall with the Provan-Summons Trophy. At Sydney Square the Rabbitohs will be presented with the keys to the city for achieving the Club’s 21st premiership as well as for the impact and inspiration they have provided to the Rabbitohs family with their efforts to become this year’s NRL champions. Members and fans will be able to farewell their team from Souths Juniors on Anzac Parade at Kingsford at 12:30pm on Thursday, with the bus expected to reach Town Hall at approximately 1:30pm for the public civic reception. The Rabbitohs are encouraging all Members and supporters to show their support for the team along the bus route as well as at Souths Juniors and Sydney Square to cap off a magnificent week of celebrations.

Rabbitohs Recieve Keys to the City of Randwick

Just days after being crowned NRL Premiers for 2014, the South Sydney Rabbitohs enjoyed the adulation of their communities during a public street parade, punctuated by receiving the highest honour in the form of ‘Key to the City’ to both Randwick City and the City of Sydney. Hundreds of people descended on Souths Juniors for the first leg of the parade, but not before Randwick Mayor, Ted Seng, presented the team with the Key to Randwick City. “They are the pride of Randwick and an inspiration to thousands,” said the Mayor. “Randwick City is enormously proud to be associated with the South Sydney Rabbitohs. We have an ongoing partnership with Souths Cares and the work they do within the community, particularly with our young people and the Indigenous community is to be commended. “On behalf of the people of the City of Randwick I am honoured to present the Rabbitohs with the Key to the City of Randwick to acknowledge their Premiership win and the ongoing community work they do in Randwick City.”

Rabbitohs Recieve Keys to the City of Sydney

Thousands of people lined the streets of South Sydney and the City of Sydney to show their appreciation for the team as they drove past in an open, double-decker bus, proudly showing off the Provan-Summons Trophy on their way to Sydney Town Hall. Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, presented the team with the Key to the City of Sydney, following in the footsteps of late, great Rabbitoh and rugby league Immortal, Clive Churchill, who received the Key to the City of Sydney in 1985. The Key to the City is the highest civic honour that a council can bestow on an individual or group. The practice dates back to medieval times when many cities were fortified and the key symbolised a relationship and friendship that allowed the recipient to come and leave freely.

Rabbitohs Bridge Climb

The Rabbitohs capped off the day by taking the Provan Summons Trophy to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
