Late Changes

Corrigan was going to replace Hunt with Everingham going to the wing. However Corrigan was injured in the warm up and the team reverted back to Everingham right center and Hunt left wing. So in the end George Burgess and Corrigan dropped off the bench. Sutton was captain.

WIN 24-6

Starring performances by returning Origin representatives Greg Inglis and Dave Taylor has seen the South Sydney Rabbitohs score a 24-6 victory over an error ridden Parramatta Eels. Despite suffering an elbow injury in the first half, Inglis went on to set up 2 tries in the win, with Souths turning a 12-0 half time lead into a 24-6 victory. The Eels started strong, making plenty of metres from the kick-off and putting the Rabbitohs under pressure, but came up empty. On the back of a good kicking game the Rabbitohs worked their way down to the Eels end, and converted at their first attempt in the 16th minute when Nathan Merritt was on the end of an Adam Reynolds kick to score in the corner. Despite looking like suffering an elbow injury, Greg Inglis stayed on the field and set up a try in the 30th minute for Justin Hunt, pushing away from 3 tackles and offloading to the winger to establish a 12-0 lead. The Eels mounted some pressure right before the break, but couldn’t take advantage, making an error as the siren sounded in the background. The Rabbitohs struck straight after the break through Dylan Farrell, as he showed some good footwork off an Inglis pass to extend the Rabbitohs lead in the 42nd minute. After a mistake riddled middle period, a chip and chase by Chris Sandow that earned a repeat set opened the game for the Eels. On the back of the drop-out, the Eels spread the ball to the right and Reni Maitua got on the outside of Adam Reynolds to cross in the corner, and narrow the gap to 18-6 in the 57th minute. The Rabbitohs looked to have secured the points in the 65th minute when Luke Burgess crossed after the Eels let a bomb bounce, and Andrew Everingham collected it and offloaded inside to Burgess, only for the video referee to rule Dave Taylor interfered with a catcher. Sandow took an intercept in the 68th minute to bring the Eels back into the game, running 90m before Adam Reynolds pulled a career defining moment as he pulled off a good covering tackle 1m from teh corner post after chasing him down. The Rabbitohs secured the result in the 75th minute when Michael Crocker dived over from first receiver, finishing with a 24-6 victory. Best for the Rabbitohs were Greg Inglis, Michael Crocker and Issac Luke and Adam Reynolds.

NYC U20 Round 15

v Parramatta

Sat Jun 16, 5:15pm

WIN 24-8

Late Changes George Burgess started in place of Artemi. Heyer and Rod Merritt dropped off the bench. The Rabbitohs' Toyota Cup under 20s side have scored a comfortable 24 points to 8 victory over the Parramatta Eels in an away game at ANZ Stadium tonight (Saturday). The Rabbitohs led 10-nil at half time and 24-nil after 75 minutes in a match which saw halfback Luke Keary score a hat trick. Handling errors from both sides ruined the first half with the scoreboar remaining untouched for the first half an hour. In the 33rd minute, winger David Sisifa crossed for the Rabbitohs, pouncing on a Dylan Walker grubber in the left corner to opening the scoring. Five minutes later, Keary scored his first try, also chasing through a Walker grubber kick. Walker's short kicking game was coming to the fore and the Rabbitohs were looking comfortable at the break. The tries continued to come in the second stanza with hooker Apisai Koroisau scoring six minutes into the half. He carried three defenders over the line to score. Four minutes later Keary scored his second, making a 60 metre bust down the left hand side to score. Keary scored again in the 67th minute after another long break, establishing the 24-nil lead for the young Rabbitohs. The Eels scored two late tries through John Folau and James Tuitahi, taking the final scoreline to 24-8 in favour of the Rabbitohs. Keary was the stand out player again, controlling the game in the number seven jersey.

NSW Cup Round 16

v Canterbury, North Sydney Oval

Sat Jun 16, 3:00pm

LOSS 8-22

Late Changes Talanoa is out after his flight home was delayed and was replaced by Chris Centrone on the wing. Canterbury stopped North Sydney’s 5 game unbeaten streak with a 22-8 victory at North Sydney Oval. North’s went into the match without stars Nathan Peats, George Burgess, Chris McQueen and Justin Hunt who were all playing first grade. The Bulldogs played a game full of confidence and punishing defence and were too much for Bears in wet conditions. The Bulldogs started the game with some bruising defence and hammered the Bears line, with back to back penalties inside the first 10 minutes. The Bears on-line defence held strong and repelled the constant Blue and White attack. It took a brilliant offload by Brett Lane to crack the Bears defence. The centre looked to be tackled but somehow got an offload to Daniel Abou-Sleiman, who strolled across the line to open the scoring midway through the first half. The Bulldogs didn’t need to wait long to add to their lead. Less than 5 minutes after scoring their first, hooker Shane Pumipi burrowed his way through the defence from dummy half and forced the ball over the line. Chad Isles converted the try to give the Bulldogs a 10 nil lead in tough conditions. The Bulldogs continued pile on the pressure on the Bears defence. Ill-discipline by the Bears and good kicking by the Bulldogs got the away side deep in North Sydney’s territory and Ratu Tagive outsprinted James Roberts to score the Bulldogs third try in the space of 10 minutes. On the stroke of halftime Ratu Tagive broke the line inside his own half and raced downfield but was chased down by Ryan Carr only 10m out from the tryline. North’s halfback was adjudged to have held onto the Bulldogs winger for two long and was subsequently sinbinned. The Dogs opted for the penalty and extended the lead to 18 nil. The Bulldogs started the second half with the same confidence that got them to an 18 nil lead and Norths started the half with 12 men, as Carr was sinbinned on the stroke of halftime. However it was the Bear’s who were the first to post points in the second half as James Roberts fooled the defence with a dummy and then broke through a tackle to score much to the delight of the home fans, who braved the wet conditions to turn out in good numbers. Ball security was becoming an issue for the Bears as they continued to drop the ball in good field position. Ball security wasn’t an issue for Greg Nichols however, as he miraculously plucked the ball out of the air from a chip kick over his head and raced downfield. The Bears however couldn’t make the most of their field position and gave away the ball cheaply. With 10 minutes left in the game James Roberts knocked the ball out of the Bulldogs hands on the first tackle and the ball was spread along the backline to Curtis Johnston who was too quick for the recovering defenders and crossed over for the Bears second try. Roberts couldn’t convert the try and the scoreline was 18-8 with minutes left. The Bulldogs continued to apply pressure and John Sila finished off the Bears with a try on his wing, which went unconverted to give the Bulldogs a 22-8 lead. That would prove to be the final scoreline as the Bulldogs ended the Bears winning streak with a tough win away from home.
