Souths Biggest Ever win over Tigers

It was a great day in the office last week. Souths recorded their biggest ever win over a Tigers team (Balmain or the merged Wests-Tigers). Our forward power layed the foundation instantly and we just steam rolled the Wests-Tigers for the remainder of the game, until Madge decided to try a few combinations late in the game. Thats now 22 competition points in the bank and only 4 more wins to guarantee a semifinal spot.

Greg Inglis first Quadruple

Greg Inglis was devestating in the game racking up 4 tries, his first 4 try haul ever for Souths.

Nathan Merritt Only 4 to go

Nathan Merritt again added another try to his tally. He was joined by GI as the NRL leading try scorer in 2013. He is now only 4 tries away from Horder. And is now 7th place outright in the all time try scorers list.

Walker debut

Congratulations to Dylan Walker on a successful debut in first grade and baggin ga try to boot. He currently leads the club top point scorers across all 3 grades.

NRL Introduces new 30 sec scrum/drop our rule

I like the look of the new proposed 30 sec rule to take a drop out or form a scrum. My only concern is that it should be a differential scrum penalty and round 15 is not a appropriate moment in the season to start changing the rules. Any Rule changes need to occur during the off season or minor rule adjustments completed by Round 5.

Round 10 - Stat Attack

Statistically it was a comprehensive game with al lstates across the park being very good and thsi was reflected on the score board. Completion rates were back to our high standard of this week to 83% and errors dropped to 6. Souths Effective 1st tackle for the match was a season best at at 22.3m. We drifted to 17 missed tackles which is still very good and only 8 opposition offloads meant we closed down a lot of second phase play.

There were changes to our backline this week with Merritt swapping wings to accommodate Walker. Looking at our left side defence - Goodwin-Walker-Sutton-McQueen (0-0-2-1) was great again at 3 from 3 missed tackles last week. On the right side Merritt-Champion-Reynolds-Teo (1-1-2-2) drifted out to 6 from 2 missed tackles last week.

Our go forward was great this week was the best of the season at 1613m on the back of a lot of meeting made by teh backline. Luke and Te'o lead the way in the forwards was the best making 10+m per hitup. With George Burgess, Luke, and Sam Burgess making more that 100+m in the match. Defensively Luke was our best in the tackling raking up 27 tackles. With Asotasi, Clark, Lowe, Walker and Goodwin not missing a tackle.
