WIN 11-6

Selected Trial teams

South Sydney and Eastern Suburbs met at the Argiculrural Ground, when the former won 11 points to 6. Hennessy kicked off, and both sides were slow at the start. After a series of passing rushes Frawley was the first scorer of the game but S.Fry the Eastern Suburbs three-quarter, failed at goal. Flegg, the East captain, with O'Mailey and Brackenrigg were doing great work in the forwards, and Smith added a further try. He followed a long punt by S.Fry, and just beat Conlin to the ball. Brown failed to add the extra points, and at half-time Eastern Suburbs were 6 points, South Sydney nil. In this half O'Mailey and Mable collided, and Mable had to leave field, and was replaced by Green.

On resuming South Sydney livened up, and showed much supier play to their first half exhibition. They had the advantage of the wind, and Davis got over the line and Green converted. Eastern Suburbs 6; South Sydney 5. Jarman showed out well for South Sydney, and Smith, Rosenfield, D'Alpuget and Frawley were playing spendidly for Easts. Green of South Sydney, touched down after a great forward rush. He, however, failed to add the extra points. South Sydney 8; Eastern Suburbs 6. The wind in this half was very strong, and greatly aided South Sydney, and as a result, Davis secured from a high punt and scored a unconverted try. In the second half Eastern suburbs failed to score. The other side had the advantage part of the game and when the whistle sound South Sydney had acquired 11 points. The final scores were - South Sydney 11; Eastern Suburbs 6.

The South Sydney League team will have a very solid front row in forwards this season. A.Hennessy and J.Rosewell (rep forfwards) and J.Cochrane (captain of rep, second grade team 1907) will figure in their positions. Store, as wing three-quarter, has been showing brilliant form in every trial match to date. Arthur Hennesy is "licking..." the team into great shape. "Billy" Cann has been a onlooker for a couple of weeks (broken finger). South League have unearthed a couple of speedy and clever backs, who will show great advantage when the compeition starts. South are playing seven of last years union team in Rosewell, Hennessy, Storie, Anderson, Fry, Davis amd Cann. Butler the scrum half is a player of exceptional ability and promise, and is tipped to go close to rep. honours.
