Selected Round 9 Teams

South Sydney playing at Wentworth Park had a rather easy win over Glebe by 24 to nil. In the first half the red guernseys completly overran their opponents scoring 21 points. The second half however, was more even, and only three points were scored in it. Mr Ballerum was the umpire. Glebe kicked off and the ball stayed for some time in South's territory. Souths then crossed the dividing line, and a free was awarded them in a good position. Conlin's kick opened the score line for his side, South Sydney 2 points Glebe nil. South Sydney still pressed, and menaced the line on several occasions, a fine attcempt by Cann being stopped on the line. An opportunity soon presented, when from a scrum Butler obtained from the 25 yard line, and passed to Golden, who scored, but Conlin's kick was too low. South Sydney, 5 to nil. W.Fry flashed in from the corner almost immediately afterwords. Conlin's kick did not add to the score and South Sydney were 8 io nil. From the registering of the first score the ball was mainly in Glebes half. When Glebe did break the charm, it was only for a brief space as Cann obtaining from the loose, ran through without opposition, and scored as he liked. Green kicked the goal. South Sydney, 13 to nil. Hardly in play again and Cann picked up from a dribbling rush and scored. Green took the kick, but the flags were not raised. South Sydney, 16 to nil. South Sydney, still pressing were in their opponents 25, where from the loose Leveson obtained, and scored an easy try. Davis's attempt at goal was successful. South Sidney, 21 to nil. The half was in South Sydney's country when the whistle sounded half time.

A change in the aspect ot the game at the commencement ot the second half, and the red guernseys were on their opponents' line. South, however extricated themselves, and with dribbling and passing rushes, rapidly gained ground. The ball was picked up from the loose by Leveson, who passed to Conlin, to Anderson, who beat the full-back and scored. Green did not convert. South Sydney, 24 to nil. Shortly afterwards Harris obtained about half-way, and passed to Burdon. O'Keefe handled the ball last, but was brought down near the line. This was the closest attempt so far on Glebe's part. South Sydney were then penalised right on front of their posts, and R.Moroney took the kick, but failed. South Sydney forced. Glebe then started a rush in South Sydney's 25, but a fumble spoiled it wben a score looked sure. South Sydney forced again. From this on to the full-time whistle, no further score was made, though the play was of a less uneven character. South Sydney won by 24 to nil.

Second Grade Round 8(Delayed Match)

v Eastern Suburbs, RAS Showground, 2:00pm

LOSS 0-9

Eastern Suburbs attacked from the kick in the first half, and notwithstanding strenuous defence by South Sydney a bustling forward rush enabled Brown to cross in. The kick failed. In play, and fast, even work followed, first one side attacking and then the other, though Eastern Suburbs had by far the better of the play. Securing from a blocked kick, Eastern Suburbs came-away with a passing rush. Norton scoring. The kick again failed. At half-time the score was unaltered. In the second half Eastern Suburbs attacked repeatedly for some time, but illegal interference pulled them up on several occassions. South Sydney several times rushed play to Eastern Suburbs 25, but could not break through. From a return rush Lees scored Eastern Suburbs third try. The kick was bad, and time was played out with the score still Eastern Suburbs 9; South Sydney, nil.
