Newcastle Leave to Form Local Competition

30th September 1909

After competing in the inaugural New South Wales Rugby League Premiership in 1908 and 1909, and a number of successful representative matches, and the success of the South Sydney verses Newcastle match at the Newcaste Showground, the Newcastle Rugby League have decided to brake away to form a local competition in 1910. The four original teams were Central Newcastle (Blue & White), Northern Suburbs (Light & Dark Blue vertical stripes), South Newcastle (Red & White) and Western Suburbs (Red & Green).

And so the premiership competition rivalry with Newcastle ended for 80 years
