Reserve Grade - NSW Premier League - Round 9

v Bulldogs, North Sydney Oval, Sun May 13 2:30pm

LOSS 22-24

Late Changes Stuart Webb and Falemaka were out. Pettybourne started prop and Wynyard second row, Luke hooker, Filipine bench. Baird dropped off the bench Issac Luke made a good run out of dummy half and then Eddie Paea passed to Beau Champion who threw a cut-out pass to Isaac Gordon who scored in the corner. Eddie Paea missed the sideline conversion. The Bulldogs kick off went out on the full and the Bears were in good field position from the received penalty where Ben Rogers was able to put Dave Wynyard through half a gap to score. Paea missed the conversion so Norths led 8-nil. Canterbury was able to score 2 converted tries to lead 12-8 at halftime. In the second half Norths received a penalty and from the tap restart Eddy Pettybourne barged over. Paea converted to give Norths a 14-12 lead. Norths scored again after a scrum win Germaine Paulson put Ben Rogers through a gap and Rogers ran 50m before passing towards Fetuli Talanoa who picked up the ball and passed to Paulson who scored. Paea converted. Norths extended their lead from 8 points to 10 with a penalty kick by Eddie Paea. Canterbury was able to score 2 converted tries to win the match 24-22. "Close, close, close," was all Bears coach Wayne Lambkin could say of the game, which was stolen from the Bears with four minutes to go 'til full time. They then held the lead up until the 76th minute when a couple of refereeing decisions went against the Bears and put the Dogs in good attacking position, where they crossed the line and took the victory. "After having reviewed the game, we actually didn't make very many errors," Lambkin said. The Bears squad wasn't at its strongest, with Scott Geddes, Joe Galuvao and Stuart Webb all playing for the Rabbitohs. "I think we were just diminished in our forwards and their experience was what we needed." Despite the Bears loss, Lambkin was pleased with his sides performance. "They put in a great performance, and they weren't far off the money," Lambkin said. Conrad Taakimoeaka put in a great performance on the weekend, starting the game instead of coming off the bench as he usually does. 5/8 Ben Rogers and centre Germaine Paulson were also stand outs in Sundays match.
