The North Sydney Bears broke their 1994 club record for most consecutive wins in a season when they defeated the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 24-12 in their 10th win in a row on Friday night. Bears coach Wayne Lambkin claimed he was unaware of his team's achievement until told by the North Shore Times. "Greg Florimo mentioned to me a couple of weeks back that the media had been talking of a record," he said. "I said, 'Mate, don't talk about the record in front of the players we'll just keep winning and you can tell when we've done it." Despite their record-breaking efforts, Lambkin said the Bears weren't up to scratch on Friday night. "It was our first night game and there was a lot of dew, the ball was very slippery and we made a few errors that led to the Bulldogs getting possession they didn't deserve," he said. "But in saying that, our try-line defence was superb. We had Canterbury looking in all areas to get through but it didn't happen we definitely frustrated them with our defence." Bears fullback Samu Wara had the play of the day, sliding 20m on his knees to save a Bulldogs try. "It was a kick and chase by the Bulldogs," Lambkin said. "Samu slid on his knees and still got there faster than the Bulldogs players." The Bears had four tries disallowed in the match, some of which were controversial. "They were very very close calls, the scoreline could have been much bigger," Lambkin said.

Jamian Lowe has been suspended for 2 weeks as a result of a dangerous throw.
