2009 - The Cyber View from the Hill

25th February 2009

Quiet Build Up

After all of the hype of recent years 2009 is going to be a quiet build up. No book of feuds to spur on the opposition, no OS trips to interupt training etc. This year there is a clear "No Excuses" policy going on with major items like the Florida trip and Wing's return taking a lot of attention.

Corrigan gets his chance

Congratulations to Shane Corrigan after a strong trials period, Shane gets his chance to impress in the Charity Shield. Interesting to see how he goes.

2 Referee System

Another few weeks of trials of 2 Referee system. And the latest crackdown is holding down in the rucks. Now add to the good 10m that is being policed it will be interesting to watch the team tactics in the early rounds as they come to terms with this new structure.

SSFC Finances Improving

Member Co AGM is just around the corner Mar 8. No one has decided to oppose the current board in a show of support. The FC operations if you remove one of items is slowly turning around $4.7 mil loss in 2007 to a $2.8 mil loss in 2008. Currently the books indicate that we are still $5.0 mil in the red. While improving we still need to be very careful in during these tough economic times.

Membership breaks 2008 levels

Last week membership broke the 2008 level of 12,450. This means 2009 is the second best membership ever. I am looking forward to special Charity Shield this year. Remember to put to few dollars in for the bushfire victims.

Signing off for another week - the midweek Cyber View from the Hill
