Rabbitohs Return to Training

3rd November 2008

The South Sydney Rabbitohs' squad returned to training today, the 2009 season officially starting for the Club with a profiling session. Rabbitohs players including captain Roy Asotasi, Chris Sandow, John Sutton and Nathan Merritt were joined by new recruits Rhys Wesser, Colin Best, Kane Cleal and Chris McQueen and the rest of their team mates who weren't involved in the World Cup or World Cup train-on squads. Players were taken through a profiling session which will continue tomorrow, before the pre-season schedule kicks off on Thursday. "We were profiling the players aerobic capacity, core strength and flexibility today, with more profiling and testing to come tomorrow," Rabbitohs Strength and Conditioning Coach Vince Kelly said. "Today's session will show what sort of base we are working from with each player, give us our first assessment of our new and returning players, and gives us an understanding of their functional ability before we begin the pre-season training schedule. "Basically, we will know where everyone's fitness sits after these profiling sessions, and then we can work on the players' individual training regimes."

Rabbitohs Players Return to Redfern

5th January 2009

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have completed their first day of training at the newly redeveloped Redfern Oval today, with the players getting their first taste of the state-of-the-art facilities on offer at the Rabbitohs training home. The players took a tour of the facilities at 7:30am before starting a profiling session in three groups which ran until approximately 1pm. Following a lunch break the squad split into two groups for a weights session in the brand new gym. Rabbitohs Head Coach Jason Taylor said the players were genuinely excited about the new training environment. “They were really blown away this morning by the facilities that are at their disposal now,” Taylor said. “We took them through the home and away change rooms, their own change rooms which include the ice baths and their own lockers, then into the medical and physio rooms and finally the brand new gym. “They loved the gym set up, with the Rabbitohs logos embroidered into each piece of equipment. They said it really felt like home.” Taylor said the team now has the best of the best in terms of training facilities. “Combining what the City of Sydney Council and the South Sydney Football Club have put together here at Redfern Oval with the camps we are holding at Camp Rabbitoh in Coffs Harbour, and we have the best training facilities in the competition,” Taylor enthused. “The players are excited about preparing for the season here in Redfern, the coaches and staff are excited about the facilities that are available here, and the Members are excited about getting to see the Rabbitohs run onto Redfern Oval again when we play the Tigers on February 8.” 2008 George Piggins Medallist Luke Stuart said he was shocked when he had his first look of the facilities at Redfern Oval this morning. “It’s like nothing I’ve seen before,” Stuart said. “When we used to train here when we first came back into the comp, it was nothing like this. “We have everything we need here to prepare for the season which is just around the corner, and it’s quite exciting coming into my eighth season at Souths to have a training base like this at home in Redfern.”
