Stuart 2010-11 Contract Extension

28th May 2009

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are delighted to announce the re-signing of front row forward Luke Stuart until the end of the 2011 season. Stuart has extended his tenure at the South Sydney club for a further two seasons, meaning Stuart will play ten seasons in the cardinal and myrtle colours of the Rabbitohs having joined the Club in its re-instatement season in 2002. Stuart received the George Piggins Medal in 2008 as best and fairest player at the Club, and also earned his first representative jersey in 2009 when he was selected in the City Origin team that defeated Country Origin at Wade Park in Orange. Stuart is widely regarded as the rock of the Rabbitohs forward pack and is known for consistent, high-quality performances week-in and week-out for the South Sydney Club. Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson says Stuart’s re-signing was a priority for the Club. “Luke Stuart has been one of this Club’s best players over the past five years, as he has matured as a footballer and as a person as well,” Mr Richardson said. “He is without doubt our most consistent performer, he is the quintessential professional Rugby League player, a respected member of the team and a role model to our younger players. “We’re delighted to be extending Luke’s contract at the Club for a further two seasons. Our Members will be pleased that he has elected to play on for two more years, and he will be an integral part of our team in the future, along with players such as Roy Asotasi, Michael Crocker, Issac Luke, Beau Champion, Nathan Merritt, Chris Sandow, John Sutton, Fetuli Talanoa, Craig Wing and David Taylor, all of whom are signed to long term deals with us.” Stuart is glad he is staying with the Rabbitohs for a further two seasons. “I’m happy to be able to finish my career with Souths. It’s what I wanted to do,” Stuart says. “I’m really enjoying my football at the moment and this Club is definitely where I want to play my football. “The Club has improved immensely during my time here and we are becoming more professional in everything we do every day. “There are some exciting times ahead for the Rabbitohs and I’m pleased that I will be a part of that.”
