2011 - The Cyber View from the Hill

Coaching Speculation

The amount of meadia surrounding the coaching situation of Wayne Bennett and the fact that Souths almost secured his services, had a big mental impact on our preperation for the Tigers game. Lets hope the boys refocus and seek a revenge factor of thier own this week.

Luke Stuart injury

Rugby League can be a cruel sport when it comes to potential retirement. A ACL injury early in the second half could end Luke's career. Lets hope for the best, as he joins Scott Geddes on sidelines for the season.

Roberts Hattrick

What a up and comer. James Roberst backed a hattrick of tries in the second half and a great match winning try saver on full time.

U16 Matts Qualify for Semis

Congratulations to our U16 Matthews Cup team who qualified for the semis once again this year.

Reserve Grade

Souths need to re-establish our Reserve Grade as we are clashing once gain between two different objectives. Bears want to blood players in preperation for a 2013 re-admission, while Souths need players to be playing in a FG coaching structure and be ready for call up. It is hurting Souths players who need to focus on how to make themselves a better FG player.

Round 5 - Stat Attack

The biggest statistic after 5 rounds is our poor defensive record over the 7 first grade games played in 2011. We are averaging 31 points against. This week errors crept up to 13 and missed takled were back up at 36.

We continue to drop our intensity when a player makes a error. With the Tigers scoring 5 tries within 6 tackles of Souths making a handling error. Talanoa with 3 and Taylor with 2 were the worst contributers. With McQueen also have some poor defensive reads taht lead directly to tries.

Our right side defence of Tyrrell-Sandow-Farrell-Morgan made 10(0-5-3-2) misses continues to be a concern. But against the Tigers it was the forwards with 24 of the 36 missed tackles between them. With Luke, Taylor and Burgess all missing 5 tackles each.

Issac and Asotasi were our best running forwards this week. Best forward statistically was Asotasi and Dave Tyrrell this week.
