2020 - The Cyber View from the Hill

Slow Start - Again!

Another week passes and again we get off to a slow start letting our opposition take a 16 nil lead. But our indigenous boys did not want to let down the jersey and led by Walker and Mitchell turn the game around by halftime. It was razzle dazzle stuff on the back of a strong go forward with our young bench contributing signifacntly. It has allowed us to inch back into the 8. But with a lot of work todo. Still 5 more wins to make the finals.

Johnston Hatrick

Will Alex Johnston returning to the wing in 2020 has seen him return to his try scoring best. He scoring a hatrick and combined bueatifully with Mitchell, where is speed was a important in factor in all 3 tries. That takes his tally up to 93 as he moves up the all time Souths try scoring list.

Girls break drought

Our girls teams post covid has become a mix of players with a number of Mounties girls joining the team. It only took a week for Souths to get they combinations working as they toughed out a good solid win over Wentworthville. The team is now starting to take shape with a tough game against Cronulla coming up.

Scrum Location - Need more set moves

One rule change that came in at the start of the year was the ability to set the scrum at either 10m, 20m or 50m mark from the sideline. While this was a initial shock to many teams, almost all scrums have reverted to being set at the 50m mark. Teams need to be smarter at how they attack and move the scrum around more, using the 10m option to set deep backline moves.

Round 12 - Stat Attack

Statistically it was a game of two halves. Completion improved to 82% from 76% last week. Errors improved to 10 from 11 last week. We gave away 4 penalties and 3 6-again calls from 12 last week. Souths Effective 1st tackle was steady at the good level of 30.7m from 30.5m last week. Our missed tackles dropped to a poor level of 30 from 28 last week. Opposition offloads improved to 5 from 8 last week.

On the right side Paulo-Graham-Reynolds/Sironen-Su'A (1-6-3-3) dropped to 13 from 9 missed tackles last week. Ruck defence Tatola/Nicholls-Cook-Burgess/Koloamatangi-Murray/Knight/Mago (2-1-2-2) was improved to 7 from 12 missed tackles last week.
