2021 - The Cyber View from the Hill

14th April 2021

Steady Demolition

Another good win on the Thursday night. Benji slotted in seamlessly into five-eighth. The midle part of the first half of the back of a few errors kept the Broncos in the game early, but then Souths went about doing a steady demolition of the Broncos for the rest of the game. It was one of their best controlled performance of the year, as we dominated the game. We have now moved into 3rd. With 11 more wins to make the semi's.

Reynolds First 2pt Fieldgoal

Adam has tried to do this at the end of the charity shield, but today in the dying seconds of the first half he nailed a great long range 43m fieldgoal. This was the first 2pt fieldgoal under the new NRL rules and the first 2pt fieldgoal since Rabbitohs, Eric Simms kicked the last fieldgoal in the 1970 Grand Final. He continues to write himself into the record books.

Palu Hatrick

In a very tight U19 competition Souths have finished 3rd 1pt behind 1st and 2nd. With try scorers Kaho and Manning out it was Faresa Palu's turn to notch up some points as he ran up a hatrick of tries on his own. The team now moves into a very tough finals campaign as the top 6 are very even.

Matts bow out

Our U17s team bow out after a disappointing season. Early they looked good but then fell away. Our top try scorer was fullback Tyrone Munro with 4 tries and the top point scorer was fieve-eighth Cooper McGrath wit 18 points.

Brisbane 2 17th team

The noise around a potential 17th team in Brisbane continues to grow. With the chairman of the ARLC saying we will have a team by 2023. Wayne Bennett has declared is interested in helping out as he heads back to Brisbane next year. The effect of a 17th team will mesn that there will be a extra $9 mil on the players market with a strong chance that South Sydney could loose a number of Bennett loyal players. Expansion to 18 teams will be good for the game with a 9th game every weekend. But it should team 17 in 2023 and then team 18 in 2025.

Round 5 - Stat Attack

Ruck defence Tatola/Nicholls-DCook-Burgess/Arrow/Mago-Murray/Arrow (4-2-2-2) dropped to 10 from 8 missed tackles last week.
