Let the Senior Trials begin

Its been a long off season but our first grade trials finally begin this weekend. With a lot of interest in who will get first crack at centre, half and second row. This week we see Paulo getting the centre spot, Ilias the half spot and Cartwright the second row spot. Competition for spots is hotting up, and JD will want to give his first choice combinations as much game time as possible.

Kennar returns

After going on a 2 year Mormon misson in 2019, Kennar make a return to the Rabbitohs this weekend after being on a train and trial contract. He has spent the last few seasons in Brisbane in the Broncos system and played in last years Qld Cup grand final for Wynnum-Manly. In his short stay with Souths in 2018 he proved a handful on the right wing, scoring 7 tries in 8 gmes. Watching with interest on how he goes.

Maile in everything

Luti Maile has been a real standout in our Tarsha Gale team. Last week she was in everything and tackled herself to a standstill. She will have a good future in the womens game.

6-again Rule Adjustment

As 2022 season begin we have seen a few rule adjustments this year to combat some of the tactics being employed by coaches. The most important is a penalty being awarded for 6-again infringments within the defensive 40m zone. In 2021 we saw team deliberately giving away ruck infringments or being inside the 10m on the first tackle, so that their defensive line can be set after a kick downfield. We highlighted this as a important adjustment early in the 6-again rule period, and it was good to finally see the NRL take up the suggestion and remove this negative play.
