2023 - The Cyber View from the Hill

21st Jun 2023

Well Earned Rest

Its been a tough season to date, and our first weekend off will help the group recover from a grewling first 15 weeks without a break. A few key players are welcoming the break. The plan is to have everyone fit come the end of the season, but the defensive issues midseason needs to be addressed. Still 5 more wins to qualify for the finals. Now to play a hot and cold Cowboys outfit at home, who are coming off a good win over the premiers.

Cartwright opportunity

Jed Cartwright has been on verge of a FG call up, and after a few good performances off the bench has got a callup in his preferred second row position. He has performed well well used on the left edge in the past, so I am looking forward to seeing him play this weekend.

Reserve Forwards Lead Way

Its taking almost half the season, but on the weekend our reserve grade squad had a full complement of forwards, and it showed what a difference it makes. Norths were one of the high flyers of the competition, but our forward domination allowed the yound outside backs to perform as the boys won a hard faught victory. Their 4th on the trot.

Petersen arrives

A new name appearing this weekend, Travis Petersen, who has come down from South Newcastle and a member of the Knights SG Ball squad. He is a tall second rower, who had a solid first outing with the club. Will be watching his progress with interest.

Dead SOO Rubber

State of Origin is dominating the mid season, but with another heavy injury toll, the question needs to be asked do we need to play the "dead rubber" game. While there are TV commitments that say we should, for a player welfare perspective many are saying maybe we shouldn't. While SOO is a big event, the NRL competition, the main player salary, is becoming a bigger event, and players are showing in 2023 they are relucantant to put their bodies on the line, and backing up after origin is a signifcant issue.
