Mamouzelos 2025-27 Contract Extension

19th January 2024

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are delighted to announce the contract extension of young hooker Peter Mamouzelos for a further three seasons until the end of 2027 today.

Mamouzelos, 23, has played 72 grade games for South Sydney including seven NRL matches since breaking into the senior ranks at the Rabbitohs in 2019. Rabbitohs first grade player number 1170, Mamouzelos made his first grade debut in round 14, 2021 against the Newcastle Knights at Stadium Australia. Peter played an integral role in the success of the Rabbitohs’ NSW Cup team in 2023 which won both the NSW Cup premiership for the first time in 40 years, and the NRL State Championship for the first time after defeating the Brisbane Tigers on NRL Grand Final day. A South Sydney junior from the Maroubra Lions club, Mamouzelos has also been a regular in the Greek international squad, playing in ten Test matches over the past six years for Greece including the Rugby League World Cup in 2022.

Mamouzelos is very happy to be extending his time with the Rabbitohs "I’m really excited to be extending my time with this Club," Mamouzelos said. "I told my manager I didn’t want to go anywhere else. I’ve grown up here in the South Sydney area, it’s always been my team and I love this Club. When I spoke to him and he said we’re staying here, I was ecstatic! My family have made so many sacrifices for me to get to where I have and I can’t thank them enough. I want to thank Ello (Mark Ellison), JD (Jason Demetriou) and all of the coaches for believing in me. I also want to thank the players for helping me develop my game. I think we have the best playing group in the comp and I’m certain that we have what it takes to win the comp as well. I’m just really excited to have re-signed and I can’t wait the footy to start in a few weeks’ time."

Head of Football, Mark Ellison, says Mamouzelos is set to play a greater role in first grade in the coming seasons. "Pete is a South Sydney junior that has worked hard to get into the position he finds himself with the opportunity to play more first grade in the coming seasons," Mr Ellison said. "He is relishing the opportunity to work with one of the best hookers in our game in Damien Cook, as well as other seasoned players such as Siliva Havili, and he is the sort of player that works hard on his game and learns about the dummy half role from his team mates and his coaches. We’re really happy to know that Pete sees his future here at the Rabbitohs and we’re all looking forward to seeing the further progression in his game over the next four years and beyond."
