2025 - The Cyber View from the Hill

Good Friday Monster Crowd

It was a monstor Good Friday crowd that welcomed the teams onto the field. The 65,305 crowd smashed the biggest non-finals crowd for a single game. But it was like walking into a collesium as the South Sydney team and the referee struggled to live up to the occassion. The weight of possession from penalties and dropped ball just could not be overcome. Add to this woes in the halves continued this week. It will be difficult to regroup after this, but regriup we must as we head down to Melbourne to face the STorm in the ANZAC Day clash.

Dodd gets his chance

It took 7 rounds and 55 minutes but finally Lewis Dodd made his NRL debut. Twice he was ear marked for debut only to be suspended. He was a low key debut with the game already gone, but he picking game was immediately evident. He has come back from a achilles and knee injury in previous season so he will be a work in progress player who has potential to make his mark on the NRL.

Reserve Grade Disaster

What a disaster in resrve grade. It was our second worst defensive effort in 118 years of reserve/second grade rugby league. With 15 players out is not helping the cause but the team needs a lot of work in defense.

U21 Forward Power

It was a fresh approach this week in U21s where we moved from a mobile pack strategy to a power pack strategy. And it paid dividends as Lolohea, Hallie, Wolfe and Gallo all played powerfully to lay the platform for a great win over the Dogs. With Hallie and Gallo scoring powerful tries. Which then opened up the wing for players like Wright and Mellars to make long breaks. Lets hope the new attitude continues.

U17s Fightback

With 10 minutes to and down by 6 the season looked gone after a strong opening to the game. But forwards Mailangi, Naufahu and Pung kept punching through the line. Then finally speed from Feltham saw him score in the corner, and a great leap by McGoon saw South Sydney hit the front late in the game to beat the top of the table Steelers and win the Semi-Final. We now progress to the Preliminary Finals joining SG Ball squad. It been 11 years (2014) when both teams made the Preliminary Final together. Good Luck with both team only one win away from a grand final appearance.

$10 Tickets Great Success

The tactic of selling $10 GA tickets was a great success. Fans came across from the Easter Show in droves as both East and West upper decks started to fill out. South Sydney should join in with this type of marketing, selling the bay behind the posts for a reduced price and doing the $10 option for Level 6 during Sydney derby clashes.

Round 7 - Stat Attack

Statistically it was a disaster of a game. Completions dropped to 72% from 75% last week. Errors dropped to 14 from 13 last week. We gave away 10 penalties and 4 6-again calls from 8 last week. Souths Effective 1st tackle dropped to a disastrous level of 55.6m from 38.0m last week. Our worst ever in the last 13 years. Our missed tackles dropped to a poor level of 38 from 28 last week. Opposition offloads dropped to 19 from 8 again last week. Our worst all season.

Looking at our left side defence - Tass-Aitken/Mitchell-Mitchell/Walker/Dodd-Koloamatangi (2-2-2-0) was dropped to 6 from 4 missed tackles last week. On the right side Graham-Wighton/Aitken-Walker/Wighton-Arrow/Havili (1-2-3-4) dropped to 10 from 7 missed tackles last week. Ruck defence Keppie/Havili-Mamouzelos-Tatola/Moale-Hubner/Duncan (7-3-3-5) was steady at 18 missed tackles again this week.

Our go forward dropped to 1273m from 1547m last week. Our worst all season. With our props go forward dropped to a poor level of 355m compared to 293m last week. Havili made 10+m per run. Moale, J.Gray, Graham and Tass made 100+m in the match. Defensively Mamouzelos was our best in the tackling raking up 54 tackles. Tatola, Koloamatangi and Dodd didn't miss a tackle.
