Brennan was a South Sydney junior from Chippendale who's father played in South Sydney and his grandfather played for Redfern Waratah's. Rayner said he didn't like forwards scoring tries so his tactic in 1954 was to move the ball to the wingers quickly. He gave Brennan one word of advice as a coach "catch it a bloody well run". Right winger. legendary fullback Clive Churchill would run left drawing the defence which allowed room on the right when the ball was spread. In 1951 Les Brennan came 2nd in 110 yard race for backs on Grand Final day. 1954 premiership winning winger who scored a South Sydney record of 29 tries in his debut season. He suffered a lower back injury in the 2nd half of the grand final win over Newtown 23-15 at the SCG. He suffered a bad concussion in te game but played out the game. But woke up back at Coolongatta. The first question he asked of his wife, was "who won?" She replied you did of course. He played the first 5 games in 1955 but he discovered that the injury was crushed vertebrae, and he retired from playing.
