Griffin was a Police constable. He had played in the NSW country for two seasons before coming to South Sydney. Griffin made his senior grade debut in the 1936 Round 1 Reserve Grade clash against Eastern Suburbs at the Sports Ground. The following week in Round 2 1936 he made his first grade premiership debut against Newtown at the new Henson Park complex.
Griffin was a tall burly prop.
Griffin played 2 seasons with South Sydney. He played 13 first grade games, including 11 first grade premiership games. He played 28 senior grade games, including 18 senior grade premiership games and 8 senior grade cup games. In addition he played one short-form game.
Griffin played his final first grade in Round 13 1936 against Canterbury-Bankstown at Belmore-Campsie Oval. He would play a further season of senior grade football playing his final senior grade game in the Third Grade Round 7 1937 City Cup clash against Balmain at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
