Rabbitohs Back In Training

1st November 2016

A host of the Rabbitohs’ 2017 squad returned to training today at the Simply Energy High Performance Centre at Redfern Oval. The crew, including all of the Rabbitohs’ new recruits for 2017, underwent testing and weights sessions to set a baseline for the upcoming work to be done between now and the football action in February next year. Under the watchful eye of Head of High Performance, Paul Devlin, the players worked hard on their opening day, as well as getting to know new team mates and coaching staff. “The first thing we did this morning was screen the players, mostly based around the physio and musculoskeletal screening to identify problem areas for treatment and rehab and prevention work,” Devlin said. “They’ve then done some baseline measures for a multitude of different things; strength, power and again injury prevention scores. “Once we did that they finished their upper body weights program where they’ve done some upper body strength testing. “They then went on to do field-based aerobic testing this afternoon and that’s about it for today.” Devlin is pleased with the shape in which the players have returned. “They’re excellent,” Devlin said. “Our primary thing that we checked this morning was skinfolds, which is the same at every NRL team. “Our scores are pretty good; we’re happy with them generally. “We’ll review the aerobic scores and see where we’re at there, but certainly the effort was there today and that’s what we look for on day one.” More senior players will return to training throughout November with the players currently representing their countries in the Four Nations will return later in the pre-season program
