Wayne Bennett fined $20,000 and stood down due to COVID-19 Breach

6th August 2020

The NRL has informed the Rabbitohs that Head Coach Wayne Bennett is to be placed on a 14-day COVID hold starting yesterday (Wednesday 5/8/20). Wayne will be quarantined from the Club for the 14-day period, after it was revealed on Thursday he and his partner had lunch at a restaurant in the inner-west Sydney suburb of Leichhardt. Under the NRL's rules, players and staff members of each NSW club are not allowed to attend public venues like pubs, clubs, restaurants or cafes. Assistant Coach Jason Demetriou will take charge of the team during this period. The Rabbitohs and Wayne Bennett accept this action from the NRL and will comply with its ruling.

The following day The National Rugby League (NRL) issued their breach notice fine for breaching the biosecurity protocols. South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett has been fined $20,000, to be paid in full.
