2021 - The Cyber View from the Hill

18th August 2021

Greatest Rabbitoh Pointscorers

Well it was a game for the record books. The 2021 squad have become the greatest ever Rabbitohs pointscorers for a season, as they passed the 2014 season total. Then they set a all time NRL record by scoring 30 points in the last 8 matches. And to top it off we have now secured 10 wins in a row our longest winning streak since 1989. 18 wins thus far has also equalled the most wins in a regular season by any Rabbitohs team. It was another strong forwards performance, but our achilles heal is our right edge defence. Now for a 2 versus 3 semi-final warm up game against Penrith which will decide second place on the ladder, and our first chance to redeem ourselves against the Top 2.

Cody Walker show

Cody Walker continue to bamboozle the opposition teams and setup another 3 tries today. He has taken his try assist total to now 32 and is leading the NRL. It is also reported he is leading the Dally M leaderboard. He is having a wonderful season, thus far.

Mansour cashing in

Well with Alex Johnston out, veteran Josh Mansour has stepped into the leathal left edge role. While not as fast as Alex Johnston, he scored another double on the weekend, making his total 7 in the last 4 weeks. With the return of AJ he has forced his way back into the team as we head into the finals.

Summer League proposal

With another disrupted lower grade season due to covid, some club CEO's are starting to look at ways to get some game time for the U21 and reserve grade players. A proposal put forward is for a 6 week summer competition. There is a lot of merit for this, but with delta variant entrenched in Sydney and Melbourne it will be difficult to find a location to run this competition. As a fan of the lower grades, I would love to see this get off the ground, as lack of game time over the last two years is really hurting these lower grade player development.

Round 22 - Stat Attack

Statistically it was a good game. Completion dropped to 79% from 88% last week. Errors dropped to 11 from 5 last week. We gave away 4 penalties and 8 6-again calls from 7 last week. Souths Effective 1st tackle dropped but still in a very good level of 23.3m from 22.3m last week. Our missed tackles dropped to a average level of 25 from 16 last week. Opposition offloads improved to 4 from 13 last week.

Looking at our left side defence - Mansour-Burns/Marshall-Walker-Arrow/Host (1-4-1-0) dropped to 6 from 4 missed tackles last week. On the right side Paulo-Milne/Burns-Reynolds-Koloamatangi/SuA (2-6-4-3) dropped to 15 from 6 missed tackles last week. Ruck defence Nicholls/Tatola-DCook-Burgess/Arrow/Koloamatangi-Murray/Nicholls (1-1-1-1) dropped to 4 from 3 missed tackles last week.
