Tass Returns for 2022

4th November 2021

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are delighted to announce the return of young outside back Isaiah Tass for Season 2022. Tass, 22, is a centre or winger that has previously been part of the full-time squads at the Bulldogs and Broncos in 2020 and 2021 respectively, after being a part of the South Sydney 2017 U18 SG Ball squad. Isaiah turned in a strong season in the Queensland Cup with the Souths Logan Magpies in 2021. He scored 126 points in 15 games last season including nine tries and 45 goals, helping them reach the second weekend of Finals this year.

Rabbitohs Head of Football, Mark Ellison, says the Mackay product is renowned for his athleticism, his attacking style and his skill set. "We’ve been very impressed with Isaiah in our discussions to bring him to our Club and we’re very happy to have him joining us this pre-season," Mr Ellison said. "He has been part of full-time training setups before and knows he will need to work hard to give himself the opportunity to make his NRL debut at our Club in 2022. We’re looking forward to having Isaiah join us for 2022."

The Northern Suburbs junior was never given a leg up or hand out, not that he would have accepted one anyway. Through sheer force of will and an overwhelming desire to one day pull on a Maroons jersey, the Mackay State High School graduate shrugged off repeat representative snubs to graft his own path to the NRL. Tass never represented Queensland as a junior. He was overlooked for Mackay representative teams more than once. When a Cronulla Sharks scout got in touch after Tass starred for MSHS against St Pat's, he skipped celebrating his Year 12 graduation to get to Sydney. Only for the Sharks to discover he was just 16 and thus, too young for their U20s system. Then the Rabbitohs came calling. But to play for their SG Ball side meant sleeping on Dane Nielsen's living room floor. When Tass moved out, it meant an hour commute each way just to train at the Rabbitohs' base at Redfern. All to emulate his idol Greg Inglis, forge an NRL career and represent the hometown and family that never gave up on him.
