Junior Season starts with a thud

Our Junior season started on the weekend. It started with a return to the Womens junior competition. But after the fanfare, reality of a new year has sunk in after all grades got beaten. There will need to be quick correction made if we are to stay in the hunt for the finals. Now off the Central Coast to take on the Rooster junior grades, as our senior pathway teams head to Blacktown to take on Manly.

Shaq transformation

In a transformation that would do weight watchers proud, Shaquai has lost over 25kg to trim back down to around 120kg. But with a number of players pulling out from the All-Stars game he was a shock inclusion in the final 20 He had a few games in reserve grade last year and posses the skills to be a real asset. His commitment is something that everyone should be proud of, and everyone is looking forward to seeing how he performs.

Widders double

Yilara Widders, daughter of former Rabbitohs Dean Widders, hit the ground running in our Womens U19s team. Her strong running game and ability to bump off defenders at second row added a lot of fire power to the squad. She was rewarded with a 2 tries for her efforts.

Mitchell Suspension debacle

With the pre-season upon us, everyone is starting to realise the debacle a cross-season suspension results in. Recently the NRL ruled that suspensions less than grade-3 can play in the trials, but not in All-Stars game. While this is not a issue as such, what is not fair is that missing out on any rep games in between NRL games do not count towards the suspension, because he was not selected. But in a catch-22 situation he was not selected because he was suspended. While we don't want the Steve Roach fiasco, when Balmain tried to fly him to England to serve a suspension, if an incumbant representative player is suspended then the representative game he misses should be counted. Just imagine if the RLW2021 had actually been held, that would have resulted in 4 to 5 games of extra suspension.
