6th Now for the Top 4
It has been a week off for the team, as they rest and rest a few wounds, which will come as welcome relief to our big men. We sit in 6th place after the bye, but with a lot of work to do. We are starting to see players start to return from injuries although the risk of re-injury is always there. We only have Latrell Mitchell backing up from Origin, so our post origin impact is as best as we can get. This week we play the high flying Warriors, who are back in form in 2025 after their lean year ove the covid period, in the first of 4 weeks against the current Top 4. 8 more wins to make the finals.
Humphreys making a difference
Jamie Humphreys has been a great addition to the team in 2025. Initially through they he would be a hooker he has settled int the halves role taking pressure off the team with cool head under pressure. By taking the kicking pressure of Latrell MItchell it allows the rest of the team to play their role in the team and results to date have shown his effect on the team as we have won 5 out of 6 when he played. He backing himself when he joined South Sydney in 2025 and he is proving a great gain.
Humphries steps up
Namesake Matthew Humphries has had a rapid rise in the Pathways squads, also in the halves. The SG Ball U19s captain and half in a team who finished in the Top 4. He stepped up last week into reserve grade after only a week in U21s, guiding the reserve grade team to their first win in 10 weeks. He didn't look out of place, as the club carefully manages his development. Looking forward to seeing him progress.
Towns unlucky break
Just as Dane Towns was finding his feet as fullback in U21s, scoring tries and setting them up. A simple chip and chase saw him crunched in a tackle as he was trying to kick again. But unlucky for him it looks he may have broken a bone in his leg as he was taken to hospital by ambulance, and will probably end his season. Hope he has a speedy recovery.
Moore Park Return Pressure
The pressure to return to Moore Park has been in overdrive over the last few weeks, with South Sydney management meeting with the NSW Premier, confirming that no funding is planned for Stadium Australia as originally proposed. Over 10,000 fans have signed a petition to return to Moore Park and the club has put out a proposal to move 9 games back to Moore Park and 2 games at Homebusha and 1 game at Gosford. The light rail has now made getting to the new Sydney Football Stadium from South Sydney heartland extremely easy, with direct services to Souths Juniors Leagues Club and Randwick. We have played out at Homebush since 2006, but we have seen a steady growth in younger fans following our arch rivals, returning home will help to stop this trend. Make it happen.
