2 in a row
The pressure of making the finals is off and a few players return from injury and we see a improvement in the team. Coming last a few weeks ago has woken up the offield coaching squad and the team and we have seen them return with two wins in a row. Some great try savers and the enthusiasm of the young players is rubbing off. We have now avoided coming last in 2025. Now for our last home game of the season against the Dragons, pity its on a Thursday night.
Duncan double & Medal
The return of Cody Walker and everyone in defence marking AJ like a hawk openned up the inside where Duncan broke the line twice to score tries. He is finding a home out in the centres, with powerful running and scoring 8 tries so far this season. He was rewarded for his efforts winning the Eric Simms Medal.
Mellars another double
Second week in a row and the ability to catch a high ball was on full display on the weekend as Mellars scored two tries through lovely placed kicks by Humphries. And a third where he setup his inside man to score. He is starting to now look like the player we hoped he would become.
Taumata and Kuscu step up
As the season draws to a close, we continue to blood new players in our U21 squad. Jennings who missed last week gets his chance this week, while Brooklyn Taumata and Yasin Kuscu get their chance this week. Looking forward to seeing how they develop.
Welcome Hopoate
Tupo Hopoate made a immediate impact on her debut in the Womens team, scoring a try with her first touch on the wing. A strong runner, she shifted to fullback when debutant Lummow got injured. She starts this week at the back and I look forward to seeing how she goes.
SFS2 Poor Drainage - Too much Clay!
Well they did the investigation on the very poor drainage at the new Sydney Football Stadium, and there was too much clay in the soil. Looks like someone was trying to cut corners during the rebuild. It will a summer of digging up the old soil and laying new soil and drainage and new grass in the off season. Hopefully it will be fixed up before we are allowed to play there.
Round 24 - Stat Attack
Statistically it was a good game. Completions improved to 86% from 8!% last week. Errors improved to 7 from 8 last week. We gave away 9 penalties and 1 6-again calls from 7 last week. Souths Effective 1st tackle improved to a average level of 34.1m from 36.8m last week. Our missed tackles improved but still in a good level of 29 from 41 last week. Opposition offloads dropped to 16 from 14 last week.
Looking at our left side defence - Johnston-BentleyHape/Duncan-Humphreys/Walker-Duncan/Fletcher (0-3-1-3) improved to 7 from 11 missed tackles last week. On the right side Munro-Tass-Ward-Host (1-0-3-4) improved to 8 from 12 last week. Ruck defence Havilli/LeBlanc/Arrow-Mamouzelos/BSmith-Keppie/BSmith-Arrow/Humphreys (4-2-5-1) improved to 12 from 17 missed tackles last week.
Our go forward improved to 1440m from 1427m last week. With our props go forward improved to a very poor level of 252m compared to 232m last week. No one made 10+m per run. Arrow, Duncan, Host, Keppie, J.Gray and Humphreys made 100+m in the match. J.Gray made 200+m in the match. Defensively Arrow was our best in the tackling raking up 34 tackles. Walker, Tass and Johnston didn't miss a tackle.
