A scrum followed, and South Sydney broke away, but illegal interference pulled them up, and gave them a gave them a chance to add two points, which was accepted, Davis doing the needful, S.Sydney 2, Eastern Suburbs nil. From a scrum near South Sydney's 25 Eastern Suburbs were given a free, and Messenger kicked the goal. Eastern Suburbs 2, South Sydney 2. Midfield play followed. Then a nice passing rush ended with McCable crossing, South Sydney 5, Eastern Suburbs 2. Half-time. The second half was played through at the same fast pace, South Sydney added tries by Brown and Hucker and 2 goals by Dymant, while Messenger kicked 2 penalty goals. The final scores were South Sydney 15,Eastern Suburbs 6.
