LOSS 6-22

The South Sydney Rabbitohs' nine-game winning run was ended by the Wests Tigers as John Sutton and Dane Gagai played milestone games in the 22-6 defeat at ANZ Stadium. Sutton and Gagai led the Rabbitohs out, running alongside their children, as the second rower became the 32nd all-time player to join the NRL's 300 appearances club, and the 12th one-club player to achieve the feat, and first ever Rabbitoh, while Gagai recorded his 150th NRL appearance. Former Rabbitoh Robbie Farah was also being honoured for making his 250th appearance for the Tigers, and his side shot out to an early lead in the Round 19 contest when centre Esan Marsters planted down Luke Brooks' pass in the sixth minute. in a game that had started to resemble a finals match. In the 19th minute Sam Burgess was placed on report for high tackle on fome club team mate Robbie Farah. From the next set of six, saw the West-Tigers extend their lead 10 nil after another try to David Nofoaluma which was not converted. Souths then looked to hit back with a break to Crichton who was caught with the ball, when Cody Walker was looming up ready to scoe under the posts. A few minutes later saw another Souths try go begging when Sam Burgess dropped the ball over the line in his attempt to score. The teams went into halftime with the score unchanged. The second half started with the Wests-Tigers almost captalising on a Souths error only to drop the ball just before the try line. But the second period had shades of the 1969 grand final when there was a number of stoppages due to injuries or HIA assessments. This disrupted the flow of the game and was not allowing Souths to establish any momentum. A further try from and Moses Mbye extended the Tigers' lead to 16-0 by the hour mark. This sparked Souths but a intercept pass by Crichton to winger Corey Thompson then put the Rabbitohs out of sight with an 80 metre try, to take the score out to 22 nil. In a heavy tackle where it looks like Robbie Farah copped a forearm to the back of his neck from his own player in attempting a tackle, unfortunately saw Robbie Farah stretched off at the 70 minute mark. Cody Walker had the final word with a consolation try for Souths. Tigers persevered to an emphatic 22-6 win as their recent hot-streak spurred by the reunion of Farah and Marshall.

John Sutton was presented with a match ball by NRL Chief Executive Officer Todd Greenberg after the final whistle, after becoming the first ever Rabbitoh in the Club's 110-year history to run out 300 times in the famous Cardinal and Myrtle. "John has been an outstanding player for the Rabbitohs and it is great to see someone so passionate about his Club recognised with this milestone," Mr Greenberg said. "He is just the 14th player to play 300 matches for one Club. "The fact he is the first Rabbitohs player to reach the milestone is a fitting reward for all his efforts. "He is a Premiership winner with the Club and will now always have with him the knowledge that he was the first player from this famous Club to play 300 matches. "On behalf of the NRL I congratulate him on this achievement."
