Alby Burge was a member of the famous 1909 Wallabies squad who came across to league. He was a member of the South Sydney RU 1905 premiership winning squad, before coming across. He was a member of the South Sydney squad that made the 1910 premiership decider.
Son' Burge was a established rugby union player for New South Wales and Australia and was a late inclusion in the 1908-09 Wallaby tour of Engand squad. He was also a well established South Sydney RU player. He made his RU international debut in 1907 when Graves was removed from the team when he defected to rugby league. But during the Wallaby tour Burge was sent from the ground after a kneeing incident, and did not play again on tour. But after a number of contrevesies and with brother Peter they accepted to participate in the Wallabies v Kangaroos matches. It was reported that Burge was paid £100 to come across to Rugby League.
Burges was a outsanding goalkicking forward who used his height and weight. He was fast and clever and a good handler of the football.
Burge played only one season with South Sydney in 1910. He played 10 first grade club and premiership games for South Sydney.
Burge made his representative debut while at South Sydney in the 1st Match for the Wallabies against the Kangaroos at the Showground. He would play 5 representative games while with South Sydney. Including joining the touring Englishmen when they played Newcastle in Newcastle in 1910, being one of the 4 players to join and help cover for injuries, as the 1st Test was also being played on the same day.
Burge played his final first grade club and premiership for South Sydney in the 1910 Round 10 clash against Newtown at the Showground. The failing to play in the 1910 premiership decider Burge left to play with Glebe along with his brother Peter.

After Leaving South Sydney
After leaving South Sydney, Burge would go on to play for New South Wales. Alby Burge and brother Peter Burge were suspended for a season after participating in the famous 1912 players strike at Glebe.
