Two time South Sydney premiership winner in 1908 and 1909. He came out of retirement to play with South Sydney midway through the 1908 season after he had played no trials. A threequarter in his Rugby Union career, Golden made his way to South Sydney rugby league after stints with Glebe union, Newtown union and South Sydney union and Glebe union again. He had then retired for two seasons, before deciding to come across to South Sydney rugby league. He made his South Sydney senior grade debut in the 1908 Round 3 second grade clash against Eastern Suburbs at the Showground as a fullback. Two weeks later he was called up as a replacement for his first grade debut in 1908 Round 5 against Newtown at the Showground where he replaced Jarman on the wing. He had a distinction of scoring a try when called up into the 1908 premiership decider.
Golden played 3 seasons with South Sydney playing 7 first grade premiership games. He also played 17 senior grade premiership games with South Sydney. Golden played his final first grade premiership game in the Round 10 clash against Newcastle at the Newcastle Showground. He had gone to play for Glebe before returning to play a final season in second grade in 1911. Golden only played one representative game when he had the distinction of playing against South Sydney for a Combined first grade team in the 1909 premiership final exhibition match after Balmain forfieted.
