1910 NSWRL Premiership - Trial

South Sydney v Balmain

RAS Showground

Sat Apr 16, 4:00pm

LOSS 8-12

Commencing at 4.15 o'clock, and playing 25 minutes each way, Balmain lowered the colors of South Sydney by 12 points to 8. Though the weather was too warm for football, the pace was at the top right through, some of the players, entering into the game as seriously as if it were a competition match. This was the two clubs first meeting since the contriversial final forfiet last year.

To Balmain's vanguard credit must be given for winning the game. They pushed their opponents in the scrum, and in the ruck were the more solid set. The combination of their backs was not as good as that of South Sydney, not withstanding that the latter's play was far from perfect. For Balmain, Latta and Holloway registered tries, Fitzpatrick converting two besides kicking a penalty goal. The scorers for South Sydney were Pearce and Hallett (a try each), Butler kicking a penalty goal. W.Spence a recent South Sydney RU and H.Baulkwell from Balmain RU convert played in this match.
