Selected Trial Teams

This was the early match at Metters' Ground. After the kick-off South Sydney attacked, and for a while kept the ball in the Shoremen's territory. Their handling and passing, however, were open for improvement. North Sydney scored first, a try coming as a result of an excellent passing rush, started in their own 25, and in which half the side handled the ball. Bollard was the trygetter, and McFarlane had no difficulty in adding the goal points. South livening up, Pearce got over near the corner. Shortly after McFarlane had a shot at goal from half-way, and had the satisfaction of seeing the ball fly clean across the centre of the cross-bar — a magnificent kick. Even play followed until Courtney registered North Sydney's second try, which was unconverted. Half-time.

South Sydney were quick in adding to their quota. Fry, Hallett, and Spence each scored a try, but in each instance the kicker failed. Not once during this spell did the Shoremen enter their opponents' 25, their play, compared with the first half, falling off considerably.
