NSW Rugby League Influx of players

5th April 1911

After a recent deceion by the MRU to ban professional athletes, there has been a large influx of players to rugby league. The League is considering how to address the fact that Newtown, South Sydney, Balmain and Eastern Suburbs have suffiecnt material available to run additional First Grade teams. The matter will come before tonights general committee and some scheme evolved to enableallplayers of suffiecent ability to take part in First Grade matches. Entries for the grade compeitions close on 12th. Additional second and third grade teams must affiliate through the district clubs.

New Second Grade Affiliate Club Redfern United

In 1911 another rugby union club has come across into the League and affiliated with South Sydney with Redfern United now entering a team in the second grade.

Three new Second Grade clubs

Rugby League continues to expand. With three new clubs Grosvenor, Marrickville and Banksia joining the competition. Waverley have stepped up into second grade. There will be 16 teams in second grade in 1911.

Junior clubs Waterloo, Zetland and Alexandria step up

In 1911 junior clubs Waterloo, Zetalnd and Alexandria will step up and enter teams in the Third Grade competition.

Five new Third Grade clubs

With the boom in rugby league players in 1911 five new clubs have been formed, West Sydney, Ashfield, Parramatta, St Peters and Fitzroy-Carlton. SS Federals, Marrickville and Wests will also nter a team in Third Grade. In 1911 there will be 23 teams in third grade.
