Sydney Sports Ground Challenge Cup

With a view to encourage the second grade competition of the New South Wales Football League, the trustees of the Sydney Sports Ground have presented a handsome cup for competition. Whilst the general rules with regard to gaining the cup rest with the league authorities, the trustees have placed a restriction as to the cup being won twice.

1912 Knockout Competition Proposed

At the conclusion of the metropolitian premiership games a cup compeition will be conducted on the "knock-out" principle. i.e. the losing side will drop out till but one undefeated team remains. It was also resolved that in the event of a replay being necessary in the premiership compeition, such replay must take place on a day other than Saturday.

1912 Second Grade Knockout Competition

13th Jun 1912

It was decided that the Cup presented by the Sports Ground trustees be competed for by eight second grade teams at the conclusion of the premiership competition. The teams will be combinations of the present district and affiliated clubs, and will consist of players who have not participated in more than three first grade games.
