Late Changes Dears started at hooker and Luke from the bench. The first try was to North Sydney winger Fetuli Talanoa who gathered a misguided cross field bomb from Balmain-Ryde and he ran the length of the field to score. Beau Champion was able to convert. Balmain levelled the scores at 6-all when Matt Parata scored. The Bears were able to regain the lead when Bears second rower Jardine Bobongie scored after running onto a great short ball from Beau Champion who converted. The only score in the second half was a field goal to North Sydney five-eighth Beau Champion who was able to give the Bears a seven point buffer going into the final minutes. Bears defence was great and that was what won the match. Good performances from centre Yileen Gordon who made some good runs in attack and was good in defence. Bears second rower Joe Galuvao ran strongly and did some good hits in defence. From the bench reserve hooker Issac Luke made some great runs when he came on to the field. The Bears front rowers Manase Manuokafoa and Jaiman Lowe had solid games. And the performance of bench props Ryan Verlinden and particularly Conrad Ta'akimoeaka who made some crunching tackles. Jardine Bobongie played solidly as he played for the full 80 minutes. Chris Dears made some great hits in defence at the start of the match. Fetuli Talanoa had a pretty strong game. Beau Champion did some clever passes. The match was played in difficult conditions due to the heavy rain that had fallen prior to the match.
