Reserve Grade - NSW Cup - Round 2

v Manly-Warringah, TG Milner Field, Sat Mar 22 4:30pm

WIN 28-20

Norths started very well, scoring the first 3 tries. First Samu Wara put John Tamanika over, then Luke Grant scored from a Jaiman Lowe short-ball, then Jeremy Smith fired a long ball to Beau Champion who scored out wide. Unfortunately Champion couldn't convert any of them, so the score was 12-0. Manly dragged the score back to 12-10 with tries to forwards Jack Afamasaga and Tim Browne. Manly made an error soon after re-start from the try, which allowed the Bears possession from which Ryan Verlinden barged over soon afterwards. Manly then kicked off and Norths allowed the ball to bounce over the sideline giving Manly a scrum from which their centre Jon Grieve scored. Three tries in three minutes taking the score to 18-14 to Norths at halftime. In the second half Greg Nichols looked certain to be pushed out but he showed great strength not only stay in the field of play but to get the ball down over the try line. Beau Champion converted to give the Bears a 10-point buffer. Norths had been giving a lot of penalties away through out the match and Shannan McPherson was the unlucky one to be sin-binned when the referee lost patience. Manly scored almost straight after the sin-binning to put themselves back in the match. About 5 minutes later Manly gave away a penalty when the Bears were in a good attacking position, which caused a Manly player to also be sin-binned. Soon afterwards Beau Champion scored outwide to take the final score to 28-20 to the Bears. Scott Geddes was carried off with a knee injury. Shannan McPherson was charged with a Careless High Tackle
