Stuart 2009 Contract Extension

26th June 2008

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to announce that the Club has extended the contract of Luke Stuart until the end of the 2009 season today. Stuart, 31, will enter his eighth season with the Rabbitohs next year, after joining the Club in 2002 when the Rabbitohs were re-admitted to the NRL competition. Despite fielding offers from other NRL Clubs, Stuart decided to stay loyal and remain at the Rabbitohs.

"I'm really happy to be staying at Souths," Stuart said. "I've been here since 2002 and I've seen some tough times but I believe we're heading towards some much better times with the Club. We made the finals last year and there is a long way to go this year as well, and we have some strong, young players coming through the ranks, which is exciting for everyone at the Club. I wanted to stay another year and I'm glad we?ve come to an agreement allowing me to do that."

Rabbitohs CEO Shane Richardson said: "Luke is our most consistent player each and every week. He never shirks the hard work, he does his job every time he pulls on the red and green jersey, and he is an integral part of our first grade side. He brings experience to our pack, and he has shown immense loyalty to the Club having fielded offers from other NRL Clubs. The players we have at this Club are here because they want to be here, because they see a bright future at the Rabbitohs. We?re delighted to have Luke with us for another season."
