Turner 2016-17 Contract Extension

8th October 2015

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have announced the re-signing of premiership-winning and Indigenous All Stars back rower Kyle Turner until the end of the 2017 season today. Turner, 23, has played 30 NRL matches since making his first grade debut against the Tigers at ANZ Stadium in round three, 2014. Turner represented the Indigenous All Stars in 2015, where he sustained a neck injury which kept him on the sidelines for most of the 2015 season. Turner worked hard and fought back to return to the Rabbitohs NRL side in round 21 of this year, after having disc-replacement surgery in his neck. Turner is one of a number of talented youngsters in the Rabbitohs squad, alongside team mates such as Adam Reynolds, George Burgess, Thomas Burgess, Luke Keary, Alex Johnston, Dylan Walker, Chris Grevsmuhl and Cameron McInnes, all of whom are under 25 years of age. Rabbitohs Head Coach Michael Maguire is delighted to see Kyle extend his stay with the Club. “Kyle has been an inspiration to not only his team mates and the staff here at the Rabbitohs, but to the Members and the community as well,” Coach Maguire said. “You saw that by the response he received when he ran back on the field for the first time after his injury. The standing ovation he received shows how much he means to our Members and supporters. “He has worked so hard to get his body right after sustaining that neck injury, and he has been rewarded by fighting his way back into our first grade side at the end of the season. “His work ethic is second-to-none, he is humble and grateful for the opportunities he has earned at our Club, and I’m really looking forward to continuing to work with him and our other young squad members into the future.” Kyle is delighted to be extending his tenure with the Rabbitohs. “I can’t tell you how happy I am to be here until at least the end of 2017, and I’m looking forward to getting as much out of pre-season training as I can leading into the new season,” Turner said. “Everyone was so supportive of me as I worked through my neck injury and I want to repay everyone that has shown me that support. “I love this Club, I love what it stands for, I love playing with these guys, and the Members of our Club are the best in the competition. “I’m really happy to have this extension sorted and I can’t wait to get back out on the training field, and then to run out in front of our Members again in the new-year.”
