Finally a win
Finally a win, as we win a game in what became known as the 2025 spoon bowl between last and second last. With South Sydney still having a bye remaining, this should mean we avoid the woodoen spoon in 2025. Not a great achievement but a step in the right direction. The rest of the season is now more about climbing a few notches on the table and developing our kids for future seasons. Its now a home game in Moore Park as part of a weekend of Sydney indigenous celebration.
Johnston another double
The return of Latrell Mitchell immediately opened up our left edge. With everyone watching Mitchell it was Alex Johnston who once again benefited, scoring two more tries. That takes his season tally to 14 and his overall tally to 209. Just 3 tries behind Ken Irvine. Not long now.
Mellars returns with a double
Mellars made a welcome return to reserve grade, and he did it with style. His ability under the high ball was immediately evident and his speed and size as he scored two tries down the left. He has had a horror run with injuries but in 2025 we have seen a strong steady return.
Mann, Jennings and Fui step up
With the U21s season over, we are seeing a few more of our U19 squad given a taste of senior grade football. This week it will backs Dayne Jennings and Charlie Mann in the starting line up while in forwards Maddax Fui gets his chance. Good luck boys
Barrett and Tupou-Witchman powerful display
Another win for our womens team as we inch into the Top 4. We are seeing some strong performance from our captain Jazmon Tupou-Witchman in the second row, and Charlize Barrett off the bench. They are making a big difference to in the over improvement of the team from last year.
Rugby's R360 the new Super League War
Rugby Union is undergoing a threat on the global stage, in a mode that eerily mirrors the 1995 Super League War. There is a desire to establish a global franchise system, that plays on a global grand prix style stage, with games played at multiple locations across the globe. They will seek out 300 players for around 8 to 12 teams, in both mens and womens competitions. With wages being discussed of around 2 to 3 times the amount per players existing wage, backed by Saudi money. What does this mean to Rugby League? Well it seems player managers are being used to scout out players, and these include Rugby League players with a rugby background. There were reports of Jye Gray being offered $920k because he played schoolboy rugby. A lot of rugby league players dabble in both codes growing up and learn vital skills from both codes, not many players cross codes with success as the two sports have evolved in different paths. Where it will have a bigger impact is in the womens game as many players do code jump more often, with the NRLW offering improved wages on Rugby and as such having a greater attraction. While we have had a Rugby 7s series on a grand prix stage, this will be bigger as it is focused on the 15 man/women game We will monitor this as it develops as it will have a bigger impact of domestic Rugby Union than on on Rugby League. Clashes with finals and internationals will be their achilles heel.
