Another Perth Loss

There is something about travelling to Perth that continues to impact our ability to perform. On the weekend we suffered our 4th straight loss at the new Perth Stadium and our 6th loss in a row in Perth. The team was very sluggish in the first half, as they struggled to deal with the midday heat, as we let in 18 points in the final 12 minutes of the first half. Something we have now done 3 times in our last 3 games. While there was a significant improvement in the second half, the damage had been done. Its now back to a home game at Homebush against a ST George-Illawarra team who are winless in 2026.

Walker double

Cody Walker has been steady improving after his late return from injury. He starting to feel like the old Cliff Lyons who continued to play will into his thirties. On the weekend Cody scored two great tries one from his step and the second from some clever backup play. The two tries bround Cody equal with the great Harold Horder in his first grade career premiership try scoring tally of 102 tries, as one of the Top 4 Rabbitoh premiership try scorers. Looking forward to his contined steady improvements each week.

Kosi 4 tries

Kosi Kosi Kosi, oi oi oi, was the cry as the Edward Kosi from the Warriors had a dominate game on the wing in reserve grade, either back up or powering his way over the try line on 4 occassions. It was the first 4 try feat by a reserve grade player since 2022. It was even more remarkable, as he had just flown back from Perth overnight so he could play. It wont be long before he gets a chance in the NRL.

Fui double not enough

Maddox Fui, who has been in our black rabbit program, continues to impress at prop in our U19 squad. On the weekend he scored 2 tries through his powerful running. But alas it wasnt enough on the day as the team fel agonisinly short.

Samson double

One new nam to pop up in our ranks has been Taoko Samson, a second rower, who on the weekend scored two runaway tries, through his power and speed. He has been improving every week and showed what he is capabile of of. One to watch in the coming weeks.

Has NRL transformed into the old high scoring NYC

2026 continues to see the average scoring increase on the back of the revised 6 again rules. Momentum fatigue is a new concept that has crossed a tipping point, where scores blow out. It now feels like the NRL has evolved in to the old NYC style games from 2008 to 2018 where one team would pile on points and then the other team would do the same. Teams are still adjusting, but it won't be long before we start seeing new ways to slow down the game. That small change of 6 agains between the 40m and 20m was not needed, and is making the game look more a hybrid of touch footy. The other side effect is the increase of injuries when combined with a factor like soft surface or excessive heat, as the pace has now gone to another level.

Round 6 - Stat Attack

Statistically it was a good game. Completions dropped to 80% from 84% last week. Errors dropped to 11 from 10 last week. We gave away 3 penalties and 1 6-again calls from 4 last week. Souths Effective 1st tackle improved to a good level of 28.0m from 27.3m last week. Our missed tackles dropped to a poor level of 38 from 33 last week. Looking at our left side defence - Johnston-Mitchell/Duncan-Walker-Fifita/Hubner/Murray (1-3-6-4) dropped to 14 from 11 missed tackles last week. On the right side Graham-Wighton-Humphreys-Duncan/Fifita (1-2-1-2) improved to 6 from 7 last week. Ruck defence Tatola/Keppie-Smith/Mamouzelos-Koloamatangi-Murray/Smith (7-2-1-1) improved to 11 from 12 missed tackles last week.

Our go forward improved to 1849m from 1426m last week. With our props go forward dropped to a very poor level of 311m compared to 418m last week. Johnston, Graham, Mitchell and Wighton made 10+m per run. Fifita, Koloamatangi, Johnston, Graham. Mitchell and Wighton made 100+m in the match. Johnston and Graham made 200+m in the match.
