A 1 time South Sydney U21's Presidents Cup winner in 1942. He also made a cameo in the 1945 South Sydney Reserve Grade premiership winning squad. He was also a member of the 1949 South Sydney first grade squad that made the premiership decider.
Aitken is a South Sydney junior from Kensington United, who played junior representative football with South Sydney Presidents Cup team in 1942. At the end of the 1942 season he was called up to make his South Sydney senior grade and first grade club debut in the 1942 Round 1 City Cup clash against St George at Hursville Oval. The following week he made his senior grade premiership debut in the 1942 Reserve Grade Minor Semi-Final against North Sydney at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Aitken in late 1942 was stationed in Papua during the early part of the War, but was wounded in action and came home. After recovering he was stationed at the Hay Prisoners of War camp. After he was discharged in 1945, Aitken returned to South Sydney and made his first grade premiership debut in the 1945 Round 11 clash against Canterbury-Bankstown at Belmore Oval.
Aitken was a hooker who played in distinctive head gear of the time.
Aitken played 7 seasons with South Sydney between 1942 and 1949. He played 71 first grade club games for South Sydney, which included 64 first grade premiership games and 1 first grade cup game. Overall he playe played 87 senior grade club career games for South Sydney, which included 80 senior grade premiership career games.
After being a vital member of the post war rebuild of the club, Aitken played his final first grade club and premiership game for South Sydney in the 1949 Major Semi-Final clash with St George at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
