Anderson is a 2 time Second Grade premiership winner with South Sydney in 1913 and 1914. He also is a 2 time Second Grade Cup winner with South Sydney winning the Second Grade Sport Ground Cups in 1914 and 1915.

Anderson was educated at Patrican Brothers Redfern. He was avid cycle racer and 18 footer sailor before trying his hand at rugby league as a raw recruit in 1911. A South Sydney junior who played with affiliate Second Grade club South Sydney Federals who played between 1911 and 1912. At the end of 1912 he was called up into the district club South Sydney Second Grade to make his senior grade club and cup debut with South Sydney in the 1912 Round 1 Second Grade Sports Ground Cup Round 1 clash against Eastern Suburbs at the Sports Ground. Only District clubs could complete in the end of season cup knockout games. In 1913 he was called up in to the South Sydney Second Grade premiership squad as vice-captain and selector. At the end of 1913 he was called up to make his first grade club and cup debut in the 1913 City Cup Round 1 clash against Balmain at Birchgrove Oval.

Anderson was a firey red head crowd pleasing top-flight front row forward, who's career was interupted by the Great War.

Anderson played 4 seasons with South Sydney between 1912 and 1915. He played 3 first grade club games for South Sydney, which included 2 first grade cup games and no first grade premiership games.

Anderson played his final South Sydney first grade club game in the 1914 mid season tour match against Murwilliumbah at Murwilliumbah, where he sustained a broken colar bone.

After Leaving South Sydney

After leaving South Sydney enlisted and fought with the famous 17th Battalion on the Western Front in France, earning a Military Medal for bravery in the field. He also played rugby on the battlefront as a member of the AIF team in the French second division. After returning to Australia he would go on to represent New South Wales after leaving South Sydney. He would return to serve in World War II in the Eastern Command in Sydney.
