Brown was a South Sydney junior from Mascot who was brought into grade in 1941 from B Grade. He made his senior grade club and premiership debut in the 1941 Round 5 clash against Western Suburbs at Pratten Park. Later the same season he stepped up into reserve grade in the 1942 Round 11 Reserve Grade clash against Canterbury-Bankstown at Belmore Oval. The following year, after recovering from a broken jaw, he was called up into first grade to make his first grade club and premiership debut in the 1942 Round 6 clash against North Sydney at the Sports Ground.
Brown is a sound five-eighth, who shapes particularly well.
