Crook was a junior athletics runner, who would race a young Harold Horder in 1913. Crook is a South Sydney junior from Eveleigh Oaks who played junior reps in 1913 and 1914 in the South Sydney President Cup teams.
After scoring a try in the final of the 1913 Presidents Cup for South Sydney, Crook was called up to play in the last game of the season, making his South Sydney first grade debut in the 1913 Round 14 clash against North Sydney at North Sydney Oval.
This would be Crook's one and only first grade premiership match for South Sydney. After another season playing in the South Sydney juniors in 1914, he enlisted at the start of 1915.
