Moir was a state beach sprint champion, winning the professional sprint race the Canberra Gift for £500. In 1958 he won the NSWRL 110 yards Championship, running 11.1s in full football gear beating Ken Irvine. Moir was the South Sydney and NSWRL leading try scorer in 1953 and 1955.
