Mullane is a 1 time reserve grade premiership winner for South Sydey in 1943. He also won the U21 Presidents Cup for South Sydney in 1942.
Mullane is a South Sydney junior from Kensington, who played junior reps for South Sydney in the 1942 U21 Presidents Cup team. In 1943 he was graded and made his senior grade club and premiership debut in the 1943 Round 1 Third Grade clash against Newtown at Henson Park. He stepped up into reserve grade in the 1943 Round 7 clash against Eastern Suburbs at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He got a taste of first grade in the 1943 short form knockout carnival scoring a try against Eastern Suburbs at the Sport Ground. At the end of the season he was called up to make his first grade cup debut in the 1943 State Championship Cup-Tie Semi-Final clash against St George at the Sydney Cricket Ground. After a 4 year break he returned after the war to make his first grade premiership debut in the 1947 Round 1 clash against St George at Erskineville Oval.
Mullane was a prop who left South Sydney to serve in Borneo and Rabaul in World War II. He returned as part of the military contingent to help rebuild South Sydney.
Mullane played 4 seasons with South Sydney between 1943 and 1949. He played 23 first grade club games for South Sydney which included 21 first grade premiership games and 1 first grade cup game. Overall he played 56 senior grade career club games for South Sydney, which included 54 senior grade career premiership games for South Sydney. He also played in the 1943 short form carnival.
He played his final first grade club and premiership game in the 1948 Round 4 clash against Balmain at Leichhardt Oval. He played his final senior grade club and premiership game in the 1949 Round 17 Third Grade clash against Balmain at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
