Balmain set the ball in motion and fast and open plaj followed for some time the local men having slightly the better of the tussle. Two free kicks were awarded to Balmain, but they did not advantage them much. South Sydney got going, and with a pretty rush, invaded Balmain's 25, where relief was afforded by a free kick. Leveson, however, secured from the kick and dropped, a neat goal. Balmain attacked in good style, but the visitors' defence was solid and fast, and open play followed until the half-time whistle sounded with the score unaltered-South Sydney 2 to nil.
Green led off in the second half for South Sydney and very determined play on both sides was witnessed. With the wind in their favour, Balmain repeatedly worked the ball close to South Sydney's line, but, owing to the latter's sound defence, they were unable to get through. Some good forward play enabled South Sydney to get within Balmain's 25, but the ball went out. From the scrum, ruck work ensued, but finally Conlin marked and scored After that, Balmain forced matters, but there was no further score, the game ending in a win for South Sydney by 4 points to nil.

Balmain had considerably the best of matters during the first half. Black crossing in as the result of a pretty passing rush. Curie added the extras. A few minutes before half-time Harden bored his way in from a scrum inside Balmain's 25. The kick for goal was fruitless. In the second half South Sydney were almost continously kept on their own side of half-way. Balmain pressing hard, and as the result of some good forward work Black crossed in. The kick failed. Final scores were - Balmain, 8 points; South Sydney 3.
